Rainbows have nothing to hide.....

1.) Instead of a resolution, some people choose a theme word to live by for the year. Choose a word for 2013 and tell us why you chose it. ( I like how Natalia from Ma Nouvelle Mode had hers come full circle this year.)

And a little bit of number

4.) Resolutions. Love’em? Hate’em? Tell us why. Make one? Talk about your resolutions or goals for 2013.

I hate New Year’s Resolutions

Correction, I strongly dislike New Year’s Resolutions (you are not supposed to say hate, it is not a kind word according to Lucy…nor is stupid and shit and shut up….and she is of course right)

New Year’s Resolutions seem to be a set up for failure

Sure, some people make good on them but I think the masses fail miserably – by February we give up and spend the rest of the year beating ourselves up for not sticking to our Resolutions

Then, the following year, we resolve to stick to our new Resolutions only to fail again…and the vicious cycle goes on and on

In 2011, I came up with five Resolutions; even gave an update midway through the year

I did okay with said Resolutions but not as well as I could have…like I never made it to Tulsa and I gave up keeping in touch with people because they never returned my calls

In 2012, instead of Resolutions, I came up with a list of hopes and dreams for 2012 and beyond

And sure, I’ve achieved a few of them, but the To Do List is still a lot longer than the Done List

And then I wondered where Resolutions even came from – so I did some research and found this which led me to this which, suffice to say, humbled me and made me realize I am not even worthy of making Resolutions

So this year, instead of Resolutions, I’m choosing, as inspired by Mama Kat, a theme word to live by for the year

I’ll think of this word as my anchor of 2013

It will be a word which will pull me out of my darkest moment and make my brightest moment shine even more

It will be a word that plays on my lips as I celebrate my victories and curse my defeats

The word I summon as I open my eyes each morning to get me through the day

It will be the anchor I need to keep me grounded and on course

I’ve yet to look at what others have chosen but I imagine we’re all throwing around words like:

Organized – from a sock drawer to a junk drawer to the books on the shelves and mailing birthday cards on time – people just want to be more organized

Healthy – Some want physical health…want to be skinner or vow to exercise more but others will want emotional and mental health, maybe a combination of all three…maybe for themselves maybe for others in their life

Focused – more time spent focusing on one’s self – on one’s needs….or maybe being more focused on a career goal or a personal goal – or maybe being more focused on relationships with family and friends, children, spouses or God

Kind – kind to others, kind to one’s self, to the environment to Liberals…just kinder in general

True - true to one’s self, true to your beliefs

Faith – one of my favorite words…some will declare 2013 to be a faith filled year – maybe they’ll embark on a personal journey to find their God or they’ll seek to strengthen or renew their faith. For some, it will be a year of placing faith in others, maybe learning to trust again or for the first time ever

Hope – Hope means so many things – such a small word, such a big impact for without hope, we have nothing – so for some, they will cling to hope – they will hope for the best, they will hope for the safety, security, good health, good karma….hope is just hope…something we all need and should never be without

Love – like faith, like hope, what do we have if we have no love? Love for yourself, your spouse, your family and friends. Love for strangers, animals, chocolate….love for the sake of God, for the Red Sox….all you need is love, love, love is all you need………love shouldn’t be a word of the year, it should just be no matter what

There are so many words, so many frames of mind I could think to make my word for of the year

Joy, forgiveness, happiness, simplicity, peace, respect, courage, imagination, humility, focus, determination, believe

I want joy in my life – the alternative is just not as fun

I want to be forgiven and forgive those I need to forgive – it would just be a relief if I could do both

I want happiness and peace for myself and for those around me – if more people were happy and at peace with themselves, along with better manners, the world would really be a kinder place (and see kind above)

Respect…well, I think Aunt Aretha told us all we need to know about respect, why we would not want that

Courage – courage to hope, dream, love, try, fail, succeed – courage to face the day, face my fears, face my challenges….courage would be a strong and noble word to choose

I want my year to be filled with creativity and imagination – I want to see the world as Lucy sees it….a child’s imagination, a child’s innocence…..would give so many of us back what we are missing

I want humility to be the cornerstone of my being for if one cannot be humble, once cannot stand tall

I want to focus on myself, on my husband and my daughter – I want to focus less on what hold me back and focus more on where I want to go, where I need to be…what I hope to do…..

And to do everything, I need to have the determination, the stamina, to see it all through to achieve what I want to achieve

Believe……I want to keep believing in God, Santa, my family, myself, the Republican Party and the Red Sox……and I want to believe harder and stronger than I ever have……believe

So what will be my word of the year?

How will I live my next 365 days?

What will be my anchor for 2013?

Could Lucy be such a word?

Sean?

Is it Hope? Faith?

Courage? Determination?

Joy? Believe?

All I can come up with is……………………………………………………….

Rainbow

Yeah, I don’t know why

But as soon as I read the prompt, the word rainbow popped into my head

I’m not even trying to be a smart ass here, the word rainbow popped into my head, as did an image of Kermit the Frog sitting on a lily pad underneath a rainbow and now it (the word), the image and yes, the song Rainbow Connection are stuck in my head

So I looked up the lyrics and listened to the song a few times

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Look, I know it sounds crazy but read the words – read the song – I think Rainbow is the best shot I have in 2013

I also think Jim Henson may be channeling himself through me

So I watched the video a few times which subsequently led me to this little gem – Just One Person which I vaguely remember

So I pulled up the lyrics and look!

If just one person believes in you,
Deep enough, and strong enough, believes in you...
Hard enough, and long enough,
It stands to reason, that someone else will think
"If he can do it, I can do it."

Making it: two whole people, who believe in you
Deep enough, and strong enough,
Believe in you.
Hard enough and long enough
There's bound to be some other person who
Believes in making it a threesome,
Making it three.....
People you can say: believe in me.....

And if three whole people,
Why not -- four?
And if four whole people,
Why not--more, and
more, and
more....

And when all those people,
Believe in you,
Deep enough, and strong enough,
Believe in you...
Hard enough, and long enough

It stands to reason that you yourself will
Start to see what everybody sees in
You...

And maybe even you,
Can believe in you... too!

So then I thought wait! My 2013 word is Believe! It’s everywhere I look…..Believe must be my word

But then I thought about it some more and realized that though believe is a great word for me…especially given where I am right now professionally, you know what got me to believe?

RAINBOW

And since rainbow was what popped into my head to begin with, I’m going with my gut

Rainbow is my word

We look for rainbows when the storms have passed – they tell us the worst is over

We chase rainbows when we see them – for there is always the allure of what is at the end

We point rainbows out to our kids and delight in the smile it brings to their faces – it’s the simple things in life….

We make rainbows from paper and tissue to hang in our windows to brighten them up when its dark and dreary outside – rainbows gives us hope of brighter days to come

Rainbows bring us that extra bit of color when we need it most – and the world can always use a bit more color

noun
an arch of colors formed in the sky in certain circumstances, caused by the refraction and dispersion of the sun’s light by rain or other water droplets in the atmosphere.
any display of the colors of the spectrum produced by dispersion of light.
a wide range or variety of related and typically colorful things:
a rainbow of medals decorated his chest
[as modifier] many-colored: a big rainbow packet of felt pens
short for rainbow trout.
Phrases
at the end of the rainbow
used to refer to something much sought after but impossible to attain.
[with allusion to the story of a pot of gold supposedly to be found by anyone reaching the end of a rainbow]
chase rainbows (or a rainbow)
pursue an illusory goal

Happy New Year

May 2013 be filled with all the health, happiness, love and hugs you deserve
May 2013 be filled with
people who believe in you,
the truth you seek,
the truth you deserve
and may it be filled with colors that make you smile
